Although not widely spread in Rimini, Bombino is probably the most typical white vine in the wine-producing hills of the mid-Adriatic, where the vine was either brought from abroad or grown from native grapes.
It is, in fact, grown under several local names, like Pagadebit, Passerina and Campolese in Rimini, Ascoli and Teramano.
Only recently have some Ascoli farmers settled in the Rimini hills managed to renew interest on this vine.
These clever wine-producers, when wishing to create new grapes, have preferred to graft Bombino Bianco scions brought from their place of origin instead of using other varieties.
This vine is quite interesting since it provides, when well-vintaged, winy and pleasant, softly perfumed white wine, typically from thorns.
It is a very demanding variety for it needs to be grown at hilltops overlooking the sea for best ripening. It constitutes the main component of Pagadebit di Romagna and it is blended in the Colli di Rimini Bianco.
