The name Trebbiano, already mentioned by Plinio in his Naturalis Historia when talking about a «vinum trebulanum», should not be used only for identifying a specific vine, so vast is the Trebbiano family that there is no variety relation among its grapes.
The Trebbiano Romagnolo, also called Trebbiano della Fiamma (flame) due to its golden-reddish colour resulting from the ripening of the side facing the sun, is a typical vine from the plains and the Romagna foothills.
It has recently been introduced to the Rimini area, where it was almost unknown some years ago.
In the best hill places it produces a great table white wine, with certain personality.
It is also a good vine for blending with other refined white vines as in the «Colli di Rimini Bianco».
It is also the main component of the DOC Trebbiano di Romagna wine.
